so I made this for a friend's birthday. this pattern is improvised and I am super happy it worked out. It ACTUALLY fits snugly which is what I was hoping for. I'll type up the pattern for those of you that are interested in making the pattern for yourselves.

needles: size 5 (3 3/4mm)
tapestry needle

pattern
CO 91 stitches

1: knit 1 row
2: purl 1 row
3: knit 1 *YO K2tog* repeat from * to end of the row. You should end the row by knitting two together, making your yarn over and then knitting two together again.
4: purl 1 row

repeat pattern rows 8 times

crown shaping
knit 1 row
purl 1 row

knit 7 k2tog- repeat across row then purl back
knit 6 k2tog- repeat across row then purl back
knit 5 k2tog- repeat across row then purl back
knit 4 k2tog- repeat across row then purl back
knit 3 k2tog- repeat across row then purl back
knit 2 k2tog- repeat across row then purl back
knit 1 k2tog- repeat across row then purl back
k2tog across the row then purl back

when you get finished, you should have 11 stitches left on your needle. Now break off your yarn leaving a fairly long tail. Using this tail and a tapestry needle, thread your yarn through the live stitches, making sure that you have the wring side of your work facing you and pull this tight. Seam the sides together and you're done.
